Lloyd kicks off 2020 season with TCR Malaysia debut in Sepang

Daniel Lloyd makes his TCR Malaysia debut this coming weekend after a late call-up to represent the Brutal Fish Racing Team for the season opener at the Sepang International circuit (17-18 Jan)

The Huddersfield-based racer enjoyed a stellar season in 2019, dovetailing dual campaigns in the TCR Europe and TCR China championships, racing the Honda Civic Type R.

27-year-old Lloyd signed off a superb maiden year as part of the Brutal Fish Racing Team line-up, notching up 2 victories, and 4 podiums for the Slovakian-based outfit. The Yorkshireman’s superb introductory year on the TCR China grid was also a huge success, with Lloyd’s results a key part in securing the Manufacturers title for the Dongfeng Honda Racing Team, and he signed off the year as Vice-Champion overall.

With three successful TCR seasons behind him, Lloyd has been called up to represent the Honda brand once more this coming weekend, as the 2020 TCR Malaysia season gets underway on the 5.543 km Kuala Lumpur circuit.

“I didn’t expect to be racing quite so early this year, but this call-up is a great way to get my season off the ground.” commented Lloyd.

“I got the call on Monday and then it was pretty much straight off to the airport! Honda wanted to enter a car into the series with someone with good experience in the Civic, and a few pieces of the puzzle came together for me and the Brutal Fish Racing Team.”

Lloyd last raced on the Malaysian circuit as part of the Craft Bamboo Racing squad back in 2015. Making his GT Asia debut there, he took his Aston Martin Vantage to pole position, before securing a third-place podium in the race.

“I’ve only raced there once before, we managed to take pole and a podium so I’m hoping for more of the same this time out! The weather conditions make it tough out on track. With the heat and humidity combined there’s also a big chance of heavy rain showers, so it keeps things interesting.”

Lloyd takes to the track for the first time on Friday, with two afternoon free practice sessions. Qualifying takes place at 08.55-09.30 local time (00.55-01.30) UK time on Saturday (18th January) with both 30 minute races scheduled for 12.50 and 15.40 local time (04.50 and 07.40 UK time).
